Warrior band: Malice is an American heavy metal band formed in , best known for their appearance on the first Metal Massacre compilation and the release of a pair of albums on Atlantic Records. Their heavily-European-influenced style elicited comparisons to Judas Priest.
This EP did not feature Neal on all songs, but Weitz. Dean Kohn was briefly the band's singer in Monster surfaced in , as did Reynolds who was now in Metal Church. The band was working on a new album in Los Angeles. The band signed with SPV to close Not much to talk about there. Any cool stories from the studio? James: He was cool — quiet and another workhorse.
I liked what he had done with Uriah Heep, so we got him. I think the actual recording of the songs took a couple or three months. James: Each song holds a special place in my mind because so much was put into each one. Those songs would knock the breath out of me! What was it like? Lots of long hair, girls, drugs, booze, and sheer ridiculousness.
But all-in-all, I have to admit it was fun. James: Nothing spectacular happened that I recall. I know we opened for bands like Alice Cooper, Motorhead, and Nazareth. It was a lot of get up, get packed, drive or fly to the next gig, eat something, sound check maybe , get ready for the show, do the show, have some drinks afterward, sleep, and repeat.
One thing I recall pretty fondly was when these English comedy writers, supposedly the best in England at the time, watched one of our shows and then approached us about a movie they were working on. They wanted us to be the rock band that the kid in the movie was a big fan of. But you can see it anytime, pretty much.

They treated us like royalty I thought — first class to Chicago, major hotel with all the perks. It was pretty cool. When we did the actual filming, it took a whole day. I think the band was pretty much done in a couple of hours, but I had to work the crowd for the rest of the day so that they could get a bunch of different angles for the concert part of the movie.
So it was a bit of work, but probably once of the best times of my life. What stories stand out from those recording sessions? James: Lot of long nights and cool equipment. The other guys might have some stories, but for me it was mostly about getting the vocals down tight. Were you able to stay under? James: Somewhere in Los Angeles.

Archived from the original on October 4, When the duo was unable to find suitable players for their new venture, they convinced Neal, bassist Mark Behn and drummer Pete Laufman to move down from Portland as well after the initial Malice demo caused a stir and garnered label interest from Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records.

Eventually, the band signed with Atlantic Records in the summer of and released their debut album, In The Beginning It consisted of songs the band had cut with Wagener and material recorded with Ashley Howe producing. Malice teamed up with producer Max Norman for their sophomore album, License to Kill , released in They were also the support act for Slayer on their "Reign In Pain" European tour, an ill-fated trip that saw Malice faced with open hostility from the headliner's rabid crowds which forced the band to drop off the bill once the trek reached Germany.
In late , Jay Reynolds left the band to join Megadeth in place of Chris Poland but was ultimately ousted several months later when bandleader Dave Mustaine decided on hiring Jay's former roommate and guitar teacher, Jeff Young , instead. The band also parted ways with James Neal and carried on with a new vocalist, Mark Weitz, but finally split up in late It contained 3 songs recorded with Neal and "Vice Versa", with producer Paul Sabu providing lead vocals.
Jay Reynolds joined a revamped Metal Church line-up in early and recorded 2 albums with the band, Weight of the World and A Light in the Dark , before exiting again in In , Malice announced that they would be doing a reunion tour but canceled a number of European tour dates the following year.
