I think this story serves as a great example of how to write dialogue. Sometimes dialogue comes across as too wordy and unnatural and doesn't seem real. In the beginning John is resistant, wanting to have a steady, meaningful conversation, while Sharon just wants to get to business; then by the end of the story John is ready while Sharon is now uncertain and resistant. I saw obvious growth in both of the characters, change that would not have occurred if the other character had not become involved in the other's life.

John is at the bottom of his life, divorced, rarely sees his kids, etc, and is searching for a human connection, someone to talk to. Sharon's comment "you talk too much" shows John's personality.
